"I've had the good fortune to work with some of today's most acclaimed feature and commercial directors, DP's and editors back when they first started working on music videos and TV commercials. Here is a small collection of some of that work. I was an online editor and sometimes the VFX artist on these classic videos. Hope you enjoy these gems."

This was one of the first videos that I did for David Fincher. David filmed separate passes of each band member, the room, and the girl on the bed using a motion control memory head.
The video was created in an analog edit bay using an Abekas A-60 digital disc recorder to ping-pong composite passes of each isolated moving square. The squares were moved by hand using a video switcher with a memory, but there was no tracking involved. Each digital segment was only 40 seconds in length so the video had to be stitched together in online. This one took about 100 hours to complete!

All the separately filmed passes were composited using an analog Grass Valley 300 switcher.
This Super Bowl Spot for Magnavox featuring John Cleese was done at 525 Post Production in 1992. It was created by Boss Films and directed by Bryan Loftus.
Each pass of John Cleese was shot on Green screen film, and then layered and composited using an Abekas A-84 digital switcher.
All the match moves were painstakingly tracked by hand, as tracking software did not exist then!

This was a 1993 Superbowl spot for Miller Lite. It features a bunch of Cosmonauts chilling on the Russian Space station. When the American astronauts show up with Miller Lite, the party ensues.
Produced by Boss Films Studios and directed by Terry Windell.
The cosmonauts were shot on film against green-screen and each was rigged to float in "anti-gravity". The cleanup and compositing was done using an Abekas A-84 switcher and multiple digital disc recorders in 525 Post's state of the art D1 edit suite.

This spot for United Shuttle was directed by Gore Verbinski. I worked with him on it just after we completed the music videos for Bad Religion and Monster Magnet. The actors and props were rigged with wires. Matching background clean plates were shot using motion control. All the cleanup and video monitor look development was done using a Quantel Henry. CG Butterflies were created by Rhythm and Hues.

This original classic Budweiser "Frogs" spot was directed by Gore Verbinski, and it first premiered on Super Bowl Sunday, 1995.
I was working at 525 Studios at the time and was the VFX and Finishing artist on the spot using a Quantel Henry.
The spot earned a Clio Award for Outstanding Advertising.
This award-winning spot for Mercedes Benz was directed by Bruce Dowad and photographed by Bojan Bazelli. The scenes featuring the actors were shot on film, and then enhanced to match the look of the stock footage they were intercut with. In some cases, the foreground actors were shot against green screen and digitally composited in Flame.
The visuals effects were created at 525 Studios, Santa Monica.
Lead Flame artist was Steve Scott.
I served as the on-set Visual Effects supervisor and compositing Flame artist along with Geoff McAuliffe and Steve Meyers.

This video was created in the "pre-tracking" days using an Abekas digital switcher, disc recorders, and a Kaleidoscope DVE. All the layers were tracked by hand, and composited using various keying techniques. This project took nearly 6 days to complete working nearly non-stop around the clock!
